About
Our Research Project
The project launches a first ever digital documentation of the Dong minority’s wooden architectural heritage at risk with a focus on its most important public building – the drum tower – together with its immediate historic environment in Dong Villages. Methods include 3D LiDAR scanning, aerial and terrestrial photogrammetry, 3D reality capture modeling, documentary video making, mapping and drawing on extensive oral histories from the memories and stories of Dong people. Original research findings include completed 3D evidence models, reality capture videos, architectural plan and section drawings of the drum tower, and audio-visual documentations of 12 Dong villages.
